During a mining expedition on Ingot Isle, Donkey Kong is swept up in VoidCo's evil plot. Void Kong is burrowing to the planet's core, stealing Banandium Gems from the residents of each layers along the way.

DK and his new friend, who is revealed to be a young Pauline, must race VoidCo to the Banandium Root found at the planet's core using Pauline's singing power to remove VoidCo's seals and turn Donkey Kong into powerful animal transformations.
